The Faculty of Sharia and Law is one of the faculties of the University of Jeddah specializing in sharia and legal sciences. Established pursuant to Administrative Decree No. 450500538 of 20 Rabi 'i 1445 , which stipulated the integration of the Faculty of the Holy Quran and Islamic Studies with the Faculty of Law and Judicial Studies, into the Faculty of Sharia and Law.
The University's law specialization originated in the Department of Law, which had been affiliated with the Faculty of Business since the establishment of the University. Since the law was regarded as an independent social science, although it was related to other sciences, and as the community and the national community increasingly needed to study law more comprehensively, it was decided to separate the section to become an independent college.
In contrast, sharia disciplines were taught within the Faculty of the Holy Quran and Islamic Studies. In view of the close correlation between Shari 'a and the law, where Shari' a is the primary source of legislation in the Kingdom, it was decided to merge the two faculties into one entity under the name "Shari 'a and Law Faculty" in order to achieve complementarity between Shari' a and legal disciplines.
